Alison Nicholas speaks at Branston Golf Club

ONE of Britain's most successful female golfers was guest speaker at Branston Golf and Country Club.

Alison Nicholas MBE thrilled and inspired lady golfers with anecdotes, insights and stories from her 20-year professional career and her recently published book Alison Nicholas Walking Tall.

Alison was educated at Abbots Bromley School for Girls in Staffordshire and, during her professional golf career, has claimed 18 tournament wins including the British Open, topped the Ladies' European Tour Order of Merit and, in 1997, won the most prestigious championship in golf – the US Open.

Her aggregate ten-under-par total was, at the time, the lowest recorded in the history of that championship and led to her becoming The Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year and the Ladies European Tour Players' Player of the Year.

Alison is also well known for her Solheim Cup exploits having played in six and captained the European team to a famous victory at Killeen Castle in 2011. Played for by the top European and US lady golfers, the Solheim Cup is recognised as the world's top ladies golf championship.

Sarah Shaw, Branston's lady captain, said: "Alison's amusing and motivating talk was a real treat for our lady members and aspiring young golfers encouraging them to flourish in the sport and enjoy the friendship and facilities for which Branston Club is famous throughout the Midlands."

Director of golf Richard Odell added: "We are grateful to organiser Gareth Shaw for the added prestige and benefit to our members of bringing role model Alison Nicholas to inspire and encourage our lady golfers."
